Awesome! John, how do you keep fractal noise from banding on you? Your backgrounds always look so clean!

That makes sense. How do you determine how big to make the image that will be mapped? Why did you use Illustrator and not Photoshop? Thanks for your help. I bought your making it look great dvd and it is awesome! When is the next one coming out??!!!

I make the mapping image the same size (or bigger) as the face it will be mapped to. In this case I simply duplicated the 4 part of the logo and filed it with a gradient, then saved that as new document, imported it into AE, dropped it on the timeline, chose it as a layer map in the Effect Controls Panel, created a new material in the ProAnimator setup window and applied the layer map, then placed that texture on the front face of the logo. I used Illustrator because the original logo (which I recreated from a jpeg file) was in Illustrator.
Glad you like MILG 1, I'm working on MILG 2 now. It will blow you away.

I created the gradient on the logo by mapping an actual gradient created in Illustrator to the front face (using the standard layer map technique). Displacement mapping uses a second layer (the map) to determine where to distort the layer it is applied to. This make is more flexible than a simple ripple effect.

How did you get the nice gradient in the logo. I struggle colorizing when using pro animator. Is that done in AE?

What is the difference between using a displacement map and just adding a rippple filter to the project?

InnerVision, here is an example of a displacement map, it is similar to a bump map for 3-d, but it uses the same white, grey, black.I believe white is the high, grey is medium, and black is the lowest height.
http://s5.largeimagehost.com/HL/UQhXXQt/Displacement_Map_Example.jpg I hope this helps, maybe search "Google" for a good AE tut on this subject, Good luck!

InnerVision, I think JD already answered that question...(Quote from JD) "The light effect on the logo is a combination of the standard Glow effect and the new 32bit version of Trapcode Shine. Switching the project to 32bpc and using the Blend Colors using 1.0 Gamma setting really gave the look a boost." And for the "Wave Effect" that is a displacement map. http://library.creativecow.net/articles/hodgetts_philip/displacement.php

I forgot to mention, if you already have QT player, go to "quicktime Preferences" then "Advanced Tab" and Check the option under "Video" "Safe Mode (GDI only)" see if that helps.
