My journey with Cinema 4D continues and I have to say, I love this software. It’s so user-friendly and designer-oriented. My latest project is a logo for Wrestlemania 24. In this case no logo was supplied so I had to scan one from a magazine. It took me about 5 hours to convert it to paths in Illustrator and another 5 to model it in Cinema 4D. View final

That looks awesome! It looks like you are constantly updated your skills as a motion graphic artist which is exactly what I am trying to do. I’ve been working with After Effects for about 5 years now, and am trying to get into the 3D scene. Can you point me in the direction of some good tutorials that you have learned from? I would appreciate it!

JD, nice. What a hassle though for you. I hate when logos arent properly supplied. So where are your favorite places to learn Cinema 4D? I wanna dive straight into this program! Please share!

If I may jump in a little bit here on tutorial sites. The best one I have found is http://www.cineversity.com/. There are tons of free tutorials there.
There is also http://homepage.mac.com/komaruyama/Tutorials/Cinema4D/index.html This is a guy on DMN who makes a lot of awesome tutorials. There are more but those 2 are great to start.
Hope you don’t mind me jumping in there JD.

Not at all Chris, Motionworks is all about sharing the knowledge

Great work, I think allot of this would be possible in C4D without the illustrator step?. I’m a Maya guy learning c4D for motion work. Cineversity is an amazing resource and the Mograph video series on the cow.

There would be many different ways to create the logo but I find having paths from Illustrator to be quick and accurate. But as I say, I’m still learning

CMIVFX also has some good tutorials. Lessons 1 and 2 cover many of the basic features, while lessons 3 and 4 (haven’t seen 5 yet) are a little more advanced but very detailed. http://www.cmivfx.com

It looks great. I am trying to learn this program as I go as well and it is huge. I am still on 9.6. It seems like they come out with updates every other week. Are you using just the base package with Mograph or do you have other Modules ? Thanks JD.

Here is a good tip. Use C1 C2 or R1 R2 in the tag editor of the material you are using to adjust where you want the material to show up in your text. If you google this you will find a lot more info. It will be a lot of help in creating future logos

Thanks, I’m aware of that technique
l. I didn’t use it on this because of time limitations but will get some more time on this logo next week.

Hey JD, I’m curious as to how you made the background for this piece. Was is all cinema 4d or a combination of programs? I notice alot of broadcast graphics, sports in particular, use a similar type of background but maybe add a lot of flood looking lights and other metallic looking shapes.
June 11, 2009 at 1:45 pm |
Hey Pixelbinge, the metallic grate was created using a texture in Cinema 4D. The rest was added in After Effects.

Simply you are awesome man, Q? is cinema 4D easy to use
I know Maya and XSI Basics.
September 4, 2009 at 10:29 pm |
Hi Laith, Thank you Laith, Cinema 4D has a reputation of being one of the easiest 3D packages to use. It’s also well integrated with Adobe After Effects. All the best, John.
