In case you’ve been wondering when Making It Look Great 6 will be released, the answer is soon. I can’t give you much detail but can tell you this time MILG will focus on using Cinema 4D together with After Effects to create a stunning broadcast project, with a host that in my opinion is one of the top Cinema 4D broadcast designers in the business. More soon.

February 22, 2009 at 6:54 am |
I just wonder whether this mysterious C4D host is Tim Clapham…coz if it is I cannot wait to see MILG 6.
He is truly a master at c4d and after effects…let the guessing game begin…

It’s Tim. I found this on the Hypa blog:
“I had a meeting today with John Dickinson of Motionworks . John is a really great guy, and very talented too. It was real fun to meet up with him and discuss motion graphics, animation and all that stuff over a coffee. John does some fantastic training for After Effects and his work is top notch. We had a few ideas of some projects that we may well work on together.”

Sweet!
Looking forward to it.
Will it be a disc, or download only?
Best,
James Wicks
February 23, 2009 at 1:28 am |
It will be download only.
February 23, 2009 at 10:47 am |
Yes it’s very cool, but make also a tutorial for Autodesk 3ds Max. More people will be interested and more people will be happy to buy one copy. More people interested means more money
I like every Milg so far.
Keep it up and alive.

ok, I think am going to have to give in and hit the Cinema 4D bandwagon
February 23, 2009 at 11:57 am |
Does this mean you’re switching from Zaxwerks 3D products to Cinema 4D?
Anyway, I’m glad you’re looking at the 4D-AE thing. I was looking at 4D but as a 3D newbie it looked a little intimidating. I originally looked at the Zaxwerks products but unfortunately they aren’t on my list of products that I can choose from at work while 4D is. I could get the Zaxwerks products but I’d have to justify them to the higher-ups and then wait a while to get reimbursed.
BTW, the link for the Zaxwerks ProAnimator and 3D Invigorator Pro comparison pdf is missing the the Zaxwerks Product Comparison article.
February 23, 2009 at 2:10 pm |
Hey Kevin, I’m not switching from one product to the other. Zaxwerks and C4D have similarities but some differences and when to use one of the other depends on the project. Thanks for the broken link info.

I’ll certainly look into doing something with 3D Studio Max… Just need to find the “right” host.
February 23, 2009 at 11:06 pm |
I like combination Cinema4d and Adobe After Effects . Good
February 24, 2009 at 1:27 pm |
It seems that it will be very good to version 6, I look forward to stay in love C4d (mograph) and After effect.
Congratulations

Excellent news!
February 24, 2009 at 11:35 pm |
This is Great News!
Tim + AE + C4D will be the Best MILG ever!!!
I want to have an advance order right away…
February 26, 2009 at 2:04 am |
Hi John , do you plan some 3D max + AE integration DVD or tutorials ? Like transfering cameras , objects , IDs ?
February 26, 2009 at 2:09 am |
Yes, I certainly will consider 3D Studio Max. I don’t use it myself so need to find a pro who does.
February 26, 2009 at 4:39 am |
Isn’t your very own Alan Shisko a 3ds Max pro?
February 26, 2009 at 5:57 am |
Guys and Girls please stop hounding John for a 3ds max after effects combo…
There is a site out there called maxafter.
It combines our beloved 3d Studio MAX with after effects in real world projects…you get some bonus stuff as well such as realflow…
Check this out at http://www.maxafter.com
Yours sincerely,
Mario Y

Urgh… Not a big fan of Max; prefer Maya
February 26, 2009 at 5:32 pm |
I’m looking into a possible AE + Maya title as well.
February 27, 2009 at 2:08 am |
This one I’ll buy for sure. Thanks for integrating C4D with AE
February 27, 2009 at 4:32 am |
After Effects and Cinema 4D is still a Great MILG DVD Training.
I hope the project files included is After Effects CS3 compatible
I can’t wait….
February 27, 2009 at 7:04 am |
I am ALL for 3DS MAX instead of C4D.
In my humble opinion, you MAY loose lots of audience with this choice, since there are much more 3ds max users than C4D users out there…
And trust me… it’s a pain to swap from a 3d program to another…
Best to you
Bruno

No I think C4d is a great choice, it integrates better with After Effects than any other 3d software and most mac users use C4d and a lot of people in creative fields are mac users…so I think a tutorial series around C4D and After Effects is a good choice
March 1, 2009 at 1:23 am |
yeah, C4D/AE integration is amazing.
March 1, 2009 at 3:52 pm |
I agree it’s integration is excellent (AE + C4D), unless there is something in particular to teach that can’t be done in c4, i don’t really see the need to branch out to Maya or Max. It also seems to be used more for mograph…
March 4, 2009 at 7:57 pm |
http://tiny.cc/OVkJ3 provides an intro to using C4D and the interface, which takes quite a bit of time getting used to…
March 6, 2009 at 9:24 am |

Hi John , my point is to give opportunity to learn relationship between 3Dmax and AE . I mean Camera Data Transfer , Helpers data transfer , Lights , Zdepth , Maybe a little understanding of differrent file types and how they works , like OpenExr, RPF , etc. How can we use the velocity data from Velocity Channel in 3Dmax. For example i know when you exporting the RPF in to AFX you can extract the camera data from 3D max. So some stuff like that will be very helpfull.
Maybe things like that . Thanks again
