Robert Sharp got into video in the early 1990’s as one of the early members of Terran Interactive – makers of Media Cleaner Pro. In 2007 Robert relaunched Digieffects – makers of Cinelook, and the more recent Camera Mapper plug-in. In this frank and open discussion Robert talks about the early days with Terran, founding Toolfarm, and what it took to bring Digieffects – an almost forgotten company – back from the dead. If you are interested in creating tutorials for Digieffects or beta-testing you’ll find contact details here.

Hi Klas, did you find this interview revealing or did you know most of what was covered? Best, John.

Hey thanks Rob, I’m really enjoying connecting with our industry in this way. It’s only taken me a decade to become a “natural” hehe. All the best, John.

John, really enjoyed your interview with Robert.
I used to work at a UK distributor back in the days when a young Robert Sharpe came across the pond to get us selling Terran Media Cleaner. A few years later I was European VP of Media 100 when Terran was purchased and I got to see Cleaner selling literally thousands per month. The dream came true and people were indeed achieving the impossible and putting video on the web. Hard to imagine now how anyone ever doubted it. It’s great to see that Robert remains so enthusiastic and as straightforward and honest as ever.
Keep up the good work. How many of these interviews do you have to complete before they let you out of that cage? (Interesting background – or are you actually in a cage?)

Hey Rob, thanks for joining in the conversation, Cleaner was big back then for sure. I’m using a Japanese style shoji screen behind me to spare you all the mauve wall of the room I record in.
Best, John.

Wow, I’m happy I went back and listened to this interview. Great stuff. Plus I just emailed Digi to hopefully be put on the beta-test of Nature, the clips they have released look really impressive.

Is it weird that I got nostalgic listening to this? Ha…
I remember playing with cinelook and filmdamage back in the day… and I remember waiting days for them to render, too!
Thanks again, John (and Robert) – great stuff!

Not weird at all, those years have passed in a heartbeat! Cheers, Scott.
