In this extended tutorial learn how to identify the field order of footage and interpret it collectly; create a realistic Jumbotron-style look using CC Ball Action, Glow, Levels and Curves; turn the jumbotron into a 3D column mounted on grungy wire mesh using Zaxwerks 3D Layer Warps; and fine tune the look by adding animated arrows plus a touch of Trapcode Shine and Magic Bullet Looks. Really enjoyed this. The only thing I was pining for was to see the finished product with the audio … to see how it all finally came together.
Or do I need to subscribe to Foxtel for that?

Hi Andrew, I created this look back in 2007 for an Anthony Mundine fight: http://www.motionworks.com.au/2007/05/mundine_nievas/ Note that the mesh has a finer copy included (created by duplicating the grid solid) and the jumbotron “balls” are larger in this version. It also has no scratched metal texture. Best, John.

hi john!
nice tutorial, quite long but really good explanation. i was wondering if there were any benefits by using 3d layer warp instead of cc cylinder.
best regards
daniel

Hi Daniel, 3D Layer Warp has a lot more features than CC Cylinder and is easier to control in my opinion. Also CC Cylinder doesn’t recognise the AE camera. Best, John.

That´s right, the best thing of john, is the wonderful design concepts he get´s. I really like Krammer´s stuff, he is very good on that heroes material, but john is more advertising designer, more real world. For me, and i only talk for my self, the John tuts are the most helful for beginners in the web right now, for people who real want´s work in this area.
I really appreciate the fact you put your real work were, it give us more contact with reallity. Thanks man.
About my work online… some day, some day…

Hi Jose, thanks for that. I decided a while back that the best thing to focus on is what I do every day as a motion designer for TV. Best, John.
