Good, really good guys. Im in my fourth yeart at university, Ive worked for a newspaper, thats all. This is gonna be very useful in the future. I worked there because i want to understand how the work is inside of a newspaper company.
And what you said of being what your future boss wants is the key, i think. Im from Piura- Perú. Thanks again to both of you.

That's excellent input, Cameron. You make a valuable addition to the topic. Thank you.

Now that we are all connected, community building has never been easier. It just takes the desire - and confidence - to reach out and find some like minds.

Best, Robin

Hi Guys

I think this was a very important episode and I am glad you touched on this topic. A lack of confidence stems from a fear of rejection, a fear that a client will say that you have nothing to offer me or that your offering holds no value to me. This can be devastating. As artists we take our craft very personally and I think sometimes, given the choice between business failure and rejection, some people would rather live with failure than rejection.

Two things can help with this I believe: one is understanding that if you have completed projects successfully then you already possess a "process for success". This is what you need to convey to clients, more so than what software you know or what designs you have come up with in the past. Think critically about what worked on those successful projects and why, think about the choices you made and see if you can identify a pattern of thinking about how you approach design. This will be you strong suit and the path to convincing the client that you have the thoughtful approach the client needs.

The second and perhaps less obvious confidence builder is community. Everyone needs community. Even if you prefer to work in isolation you (and your level of confidence) will benefit regular interaction with your peers. The feedback, criticism, and support from your peers will make you feel like your a part of something and that can go a long way to help to diminish the fear of rejection.

Well that's my sermon on the matter. Keep up the excellent work guys.

best regards

Nice! good job guys. I love your site and I also appreciate that you take on not just tutorials, but also the business of design. There are so many aspects other than the actual designing that are somewhat ambiguous, and I for one am happy to see you addressing those! Also.. I totally agree on the whole "having confidence" in yourself. I used to design posters for bands, and didn't think I was good enough to be a designer. After going to a design school and winning a few little competitions, I started to realize that I do indeed have the skills, and just needed to have some confidence in myself and not be afraid to display them. thanks again, your site is great!

Cracking episode guys. As creatives I think we battle confidence all the time. This field is very competitive and ever more so as the tools have gotten cheaper and easier to use. I find myself stacking my work up against that of colleagues and associates and often feeling a lack of self confidence. I've had colleagues with far less experience get ahead by having a 'I can do that" attitude where I tend to sit back and wait until I learn every detail. Not having that self confidence to "I can do that" BEFORE knowing every detail has definitely been a defining pattern that has held back my career.

I'm keeping this episode in mind in the future.

Love these shows fellas, great topics, great raport....good on ya both. Cheers
