Hey John,
thanks for your great comments! I’ll try to do a new version without the frame (just for me). Concerning to the “insides” you are absolutely right. I ment of course the _insights_
What a shame
Anyway it was a lot of fun, thanks for that challenge.
Best wishes
Daniel

Hi Daniel, thanks for you entry, at least the spelling error makes it even more memorable! Best, John.

John, It’s amazing taking your time to review ALL the entries.
Watching the reviews are an incredible opportunity to observe the perspective of an experienced designer, and learn from it. Thank you for this opportunity!
For me, I have learned that, everything in a composition has to be there for a reason.
Best, Selcuk

Hi Selcuk, so many people have taken the time to enter this challenge and everyone deserves to be recognised. Best wishes, John.

Hi John,
Thanks for taking the time to review all of the submissions! Your comments are absolutely right and something I very much keep in mind with other projects. I had this idea with the 3d glasses that when you go in them, you are at the same place again, sort of a loop, what is reality?, etc. I think the concept doesn’t work well perhaps with a short animation of couple of seconds, it would have indeed been better to go into another world like you said. That also would made more sense with the concept of the Unplugged series. And the text isn’t very readable too indeed, which is of course not convenient as such. And you are also right about the fonts, when I saw it again, some if it looks a little cheap.
Well, definitely something I’m going to work on. Again lots of thanks for you feedback, very much appreciated! I see this as a great X-Mas gift from an experienced motion graphics designer!
Best wishes and a happy new year!
Greet,
Fabian.

Some good tips in the reviews – all according to the skills of the creator… so everyone knows what they could improve.
John, it’s great how you motivate experts as well as beginners.
I don’t believe that I would always find the right and helpful words if I was in your position.
December 19, 2009 at 11:27 am |
… especially in English
December 20, 2009 at 2:28 pm |
Thanks, it’s not easy to find the right words and critiquing is something new to me. To me it’s important to recognise what’s working and what could use more work. Best wishes, John.

Hi JD,
this review of the entrys was an excellent idea. I am learning something every time. Don´t you want to review some showreels from us
December 20, 2009 at 2:28 pm |
Hi Illd, I have considered doing more reviews but at the moment Nick over at GSG is doing a fine job in that area. Best, wishes, John.
December 19, 2009 at 2:33 pm |
I love these critics. You bring up so many important issues I never would of seen. Learning what NOT to do is as important as WHAT to do. Please make this a regular feature on your site. Five second projects with critical analysis perhaps? Thanks again.

Hi Dan, I enjoy reviewing, it’s a challenge for me though it’s not something I plan to do on a regular basis right now. Best wishes, John.
December 19, 2009 at 10:57 pm |
That are good suggestions that illd and Dan made. I would love it.
December 19, 2009 at 11:09 pm |
Sounds like GSG #2 for me. I find real project based challenges more appealing.
Cheers

I must say that I haven’t spent much time on greyscalegorilla.com so far – It seems like I have to…

Hey John!
Thanks for reviewing all the submissions, the constructive criticism really helps!
Thanks again!

You’re welcome Marc. Best wishes, John.
December 27, 2009 at 12:42 pm |
thanks john!
your advice helps a bunch. I tend to go big with type and in the upper third only. Bad habit, but none the less just great to get some feedback.
I can’t believe this is free…..yeehhh!
December 28, 2009 at 1:50 am |
Hi Denis, we can get stuck in our design-ways without considering the brief sometimes. Keep an open mind and it’s amazing what you can come up with. Best wishes, John.
December 27, 2009 at 12:58 pm |
That’s really true, one of the leaders in motion graphics takes the time to discuss all the submissions with constructive criticism, and for free. It’s really amazing and really shows John’s passion too!
For me it’s like the equivalent like creating a abstract short to be discussed by David Lynch. So John, really fantastic!!!
And everybody try to keep their hands with the upcoming fireworks, else the motion graphics world really has to take the damage!
